At the Y, we believe leadership is a skill that can be learned and is essential for success in life. We understand that developing and practicing these skills early is necessary for teens to recognize their full potential. Y Summer Leadership Camps place teens in a supportive group setting where they can practice leading peers and others. Campers leave better prepared to lead in their schools, churches, and communities. YMCA Camp teaches self-reliance, instills a love for nature and the outdoors, and builds character and leadership—all amidst the fun of camp fires, canoeing, archery, friends, zip-lining, paddleboarding, mentorships, ropes course, and so much more. YMCA Camp at Horsethief Reservoir is positively the best way to change a child’s life.

Teen Leadership Camp Counselors are responsible for planning, leading, and implementing leadership and teen camp programs for teens aged 13-16 in a resident camp setting.  They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group.  Each counselor is responsible for one cabin group. All YMCA employees are expected to model and teach the YMCA Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Wage Range:
$300-$324 per week

Proposed Starting Date:
June 10th, 2018

Key Qualifications:
Must have CPR and First Aid certifications prior to the starting date.  Experience in camping and outdoor recreation is preferred.  Knowledge and skill in working with youth and teens in a positive leadership role providing guidance and instructions.  Will be able to create a program that will feature outdoor living, citizenship training, and democracy.

This is a seasonal position from June 10th – August 10th. Camp schedules will be Sunday-Friday.  Some full weekend shifts maybe required.  All camp staff receives a minimum of 24 hours off every 7 days.

Additional Requirements:
Job requires ability to walk, stand, sit (including on the floor), bend, lean, and kneel in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Must have ability to lead and participate in physically strenuous activities in a high altitude outdoor wilderness environment. Must be able to live on camp property in Cascade, Idaho during camp programming.
